Homeward Bound, Hopetoun to Perth

The plan was to go the coastal route home spending a night in Albany and another in Margaret River but because of the bad weather and all the partying in Hopetoun I obviously stayed to long so decided to just head back through Hyden (Wave Rock) again.

Because this is a 600+km trip I had a few sops along the way including a little 10-15km trail ride on my sports bike. Probably not the best idea but a hell of a lot of fun.

One of the stops I had was at a dog cemetery, yep that’s right a dog cemetery. And as if on cue a little lizard came across the road to say hi. These little buggers are everywhere and always crossing the road so you have to be careful not to run them over. Still don’t know what they’re called yet so I give each one I see a special name, this is Henry.

Other stops have random statues or picnic areas. I truly love exploring this country there’s so much to see and do but it would be kool to have someone to accompany me sometimes especially if she is super hot lol!!!

DJ Dusk2Dawn In Lake King

Well since I met the young DJ we have been drinking every night and just plain having fun. So when he told me he was going to be playing a set in Lake King Dave and I took the chance to go see him live to see if he would live up to the hype I’ve been hearing. And happy to say he did, it actually blew me away how good he is as I don’t usually like DJ’s I’m more of a classic rock fan.

Ok so you need to know Lake King is tiny just a pub, a gas station and sort of a camp ground/motel I think. There’s supposed to be a general store somewhere to but hell if I know where that is.

Also to get to this party I had to ride through a thunderstorm. I’m talking torrential downpour, lightning, hail, thunder the whole nine yards but I’m not complaining just stating that I’d do it again anytime for the night we had.

You will have to forgive me for the shit photo’s but hey we were drunk and did’t even notice lol

So the same with little ol Hopetoun the pub here closes at midnight so everyone piled into there cars and took us to the footy oval where we had a fire and drank till the sun came up.

We were as usual last to leave the party and were invited back to an Irish chicks house for more drinks but after one or two I decided I needed some sleep so I could ride home the next day.

Hopetoun, Random Tattoos, DJ Dusk2Dawn and Beautiful Eyes

Getting new tattoo look how stoked i am lol

Getting new tattoo look how stoked I am lol

Well considering I thought I was going to end up in touristy Esperance but instead ended up off the beaten path in tiny little Hopetoun I was already stoked before I arrived. But once I got there and saw the place I was even more happy, I love local little towns and villages much more than big city’s and tourist spots.

Well the first night was just your usual Thursday night here in small little Hopetoun we ended up at the pub of course. Where everyone welcomed me with friendly smiles and open arms. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of this night. But i did get one of the pub.

Wave Crest Pub

Wave Crest Pub

Here I met what is to become a very good friend DJ Dusk2Dawn (Jayde) and the most beautiful set of eyes I’ve ever seen belonging to an amazing young lady Hannah.

This was a great night at a really kool local little pub called Wave Crest where most of the locals place a few small bets at the TAB and every drink you buy you get a couple tickets to go into the draw for a game they call chase the ace. At 8pm I think it was they drew a number out of a hat from all the tickets sold that night and the winner picks a face down card off a board and has to try guess what the card is. If you guess right you with the cash prize which on the night was $4200, however it wasn’t won. So back to drinking lol.

The pubs here close at midnight which to me coming from Queenstown is stupid early but that’s ok it just means there’s a lot of house party’s here. Some big but most just small with a few mates going to someone’s house for a few more beers before going home. Tonight it was Dave’s and the only one to come back with us was Jayde. Dave and Triin went to bed reasonably early but me and Jayde stayed up drinking and chatting till the sun came up.

The following night the party was at the only other local pub in town called the Port situated right by the beach.

On the way to the pub while me and Jayde were walking past the police station we witnessed the police tasering someone right outside the police station which I couldn’t get my head around. You already got him to the station then you taser him and not once but twice. Trigger happy cops I suppose. Oh well carry on to the pub i guess.

Jayde, Hannah and Cam having a last ciggy before tattoo time

Jayde, Hannah and Cam having a last ciggy before tattoo time

Party is probably the wrong word as there was only maybe a dozen people there. But that’s where I met a random tattooist Cam who I organised to get a tattoo two days hence but because I said I usually don’t plan that far ahead for anything which is true as I’m so spontaneous and quite often run on impulse he offered to do it tonight. Of course I jumped at the chance and when the pub closed Jayde who also decided to get a spontaneous tattoo tonight, Cam the tattooist, the ever beautiful Hannah with the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen and I got some takeaway drinks and headed to Cams studio for some tattoos.

The finished product. Super stoked looks awesome

I know a lot of people are going to be thinking what the fuck are you getting a tattoo drunk for. Not even knowing what you’re going to get, but I love tattoos and me being me: loud, arrogant, spontaneous, according to most people I meet a little crazy and just plan full of life. I believe we only live once, we get one chance at this thing we call life and I try to live it with no regrets. I try to live by some words a friend gave me once which helped me at a very bad time in my life:

Go hard

Get in trouble

Give em hell

And always have fun

This leads me to do some stuff that people sometimes frown upon but that’s another quality I have where it doesn’t bother me what other people think of me, only what I think of myself and those qualities and those words, ever since I started living by them I’ve enjoyed life.

Anyway enough about me and back to it.

So I have quite a few tattoos and they hurt not to much but enough to make them uncomfortable so the best way to avoid the pain is to distract yourself. Which was pretty easy with Hannah there, those amazing eyes of hers could distract the devil himself. She made the whole process so much easier and more comfortable I barely felt any pain at all especially when I was staring at those eyes.

Me and Hannah after tattoo. Sadly this photo doesn't do her justice so you'll just have to trust me those eyes are unforgetable

Anyway we kept drinking throughout the night and after my tattoo sadly the beautiful Hannah left but excitingly it was Jayde’s turn.

This was another daylight drinking session but by the end of it we had some great times and great tattoos.

Wave Rock to Hopetoun

This was a kool little ride around another 400km.

There was a few interesting little things to see along the way though. Like this old truck.

dsc_0178.jpg

dsc_0181.jpg

Nothing to special, more just fun little places to stop have a ciggy break and take a photo. Like this kool bike someone made so of course I had to stop and take a photo of her and Kelly together.

dsc_0185.jpg

There was of course the usual farmlands to look at as well and I also stopped in Ravensthorpe for lunch.

dsc_0186.jpg

dsc_0187.jpg

Ravensthorpe to me reminded me of somewhere in South-east Asia like some of the villages you ride through in Laos which gave me flashbacks. I guess it was the layout of the place large spaces between buildings and set well back from the road. The only real differences were the fact there was a paved road running through and no rubbish anywhere.

dsc_0191.jpg

Anyway while I was having lunch I rang my mate Dave who is the whole reason I’m making this trip.

Dave and his wife to be Triin

Dave and his wife to be Triin

I thought he was in Esperance so was just giving him a heads up that I was a couple hrs away but then he tells me he’s not actually in Esperance he’s in Hopetoun which is only 30miss away. So that was a huge surprise but kind of more exciting considering Hopetoun is more off the beaten path which are the kind if places I like a lot more. And it is a very small little town where everyone knows everyone and little did I know but there was one hell of an adventure and a lot of fun waiting for me in this little town.

The plan was of course to chill and go to the beaches etc… Only it was kinda cold and very windy the whole time I was there so we occupied ourselves in other ways which will come in my next post.

Wave Rock, Mulka’s Cave, The Humps and Lake Magic

This is a very kool little spot with a really nice camp ground friendly staff and enough things to see locally that you could easily spend a day or two. But as I’m on a time limit I had to miss a couple things and see as much as I could in just one afternoon.

So after setting up my tent or swag in Aussie English I got straight into it.

My little campsite

My little campsite

With time short I decided on seeing Malka’s Cave and The Humps first as they are a short 18km ride from the camp ground.

Entrance to Malka’s Cave

The name Mulka comes from an Aboriginal legend associated with the cave. Mulka was the illegal son of a woman who fell in love with a man with whom marriage was forbidden according to there law.

It is believed that as a result of breaking these rules she bore a son with crossed eyes. Even though he grew to be an outstandingly strong man of colossal height his crossed eyes prevented him from aiming a spear accurately and becoming a successful hunter.

Out of frustration it is said Mulka turned to catching and eating human children and he became the terror of the district. He lived in Malka’s Cave where the imprints of his hands constellation be seen today. Some much larger and higher than that of an ordinary man.

The Humps are giant natural granite rock formations lurching out of the bushland right behind Malka’s Cave. There are walks here that take you up and around these impressive formations.

After this I rode back to the camp ground where a short walk takes you to the stunning Lake Magic. The water is clear but salty. The lake base is gypsum and surrounded by beach sand. You can have amazing photo opportunities here during the sunset and sunrise.

Nice panoramic of Lake Magic

Right beside this there is also a beautiful swimming hole as salty as the dead sea. They call it the dead sea in the outback. And it is awesome. This is where I met a couple of kool lady’s Isla and Stacey who I got to take a couple photos of me. There’s also an outside fresh water shower to was the salt off before heading back to your room or tent to change.

It was now getting pretty late and even though my tent was a 2 minute walk to the wave rock formations I decided to go into Hyden the town close by and grab a couple ciders to have with dinner.

Because everything is so close it was no surprise to see Isla and Stacey walking back from the Wave Rock formations while I was cooking dinner. And so they joined me for a cider and some good old travel talk while I ate.

After we had a couple ciders and I ate it was a bit dark to go see the Wave Rock formations so I decided to leave them till the morning before I left.

Wave Rock is a natural rock formation that is shaped like a tall breaking ocean wave. The wave is 14 meters high and around 110 meters long.

My First Aussie Road Trip

Well its not exactly going to be a big one only Perth to Esperance and back 720km each way 1440km all up. Not sure exactly how to do it yet so just going to wing it as I know I can ride each way in a day. But I kind of want to take my time see some stuff and not rush it so I’m thinking of stopping in Hayden to check out wave rock and maybe camping somewhere around there for the night as well as there are a lot of lakes and nature reserves to check out close by.

I will try update my blog as i go but because I’m not taking my laptop with me I will have to try do it through my phone which can be done I’m just not sure how yet and if I can’t figure it out then i will just wait till I get home and write a couple posts when i get back.

Not sure how she’s gona handle with the load so far back although it is light only 6-7kg but if it is a bit unsteady I’ll just move it to the back seat since I don’t have a pillion.

Half Day at Perth Wake Park

Well anyone who enjoys water sports especially wake boarding would love this spot. Perth Wake Park is the only cable wakeboard park in Western Australia. It is located 30 minutes south of Perth city at the Mundijong Rd, Kwinana Freeway exit.

The park offers a range of features including a full size main cable, a beginner specific cable, a step up pool for advanced riders, a café, pro shop and hire shop.

We (me Cathal and Simon) were there for just a half day but had so much fun and are planning on another trip soon. Because I was to busy enjoying myself I only got the 1 photo but promise next time I’ll get more and a video.

ACDC Rock or Bust Perth

What can I say it’s ACDC. Thought I’d never get to see them live but so glad I did. I have been to more concerts than I can count and I truly believe this was the best.

The concert started with The Hives warming the crowd up and then of course ACDC taking over and rocking the place.

I went to this concert with my friends Cathal and Shelly. Before we went we had a few beers. Then when it was time to go we went in style with an Uber black taxi which was a 2015 Holden Caprice. Once there we continued drinking Strongbow cider yum. And after the concert like pretty much everyone else we headed for some fast food and ended up getting McDonalds. Not much more I can say about the concert except WOW!!!

Ill post a couple photo’s and a 10 minute video but you’ll have to excuse the video quality as it was taken off my phone. It’s actually really good HD quality but a little shaky and once uploaded will probably not be as good as the original.

My First Week In Perth

Well it’s been quite a week within the first 2 days of arriving i had my bike (Kelly) and have met quite a range of people from old friends to new friends but I have been quite slack at getting photo’s thus far but I promise I will start to take more so that there is less writing and more photo’s.

One of the first rides on Kelly was down to Scubanautics in Rockingham to get the battery replaced in my dive computer (a suunto D4i), about a 40 minute ride from where I live with Tin Tin and his about to be wife Lisa (wedding is in a few days). Anyway after a great chat with the local divers there the heat was getting to me a bit so I rode up to the Caltex garage about 40 meters away to get a drink and noticed about 1000 motorcycles across the road. I immediately asked the attendant what was happening and behind me a really nice Kiwi guy (New Zealander like me Perth is full of us) told me that it is a charity ride for abused children. He then told me that him and a bunch of friends were about to go for a ride and asked if I’d like to join which of course I said yes but noticing they were all on Harley’s and Triumph’s and I was on a Japanese sports bike I asked if this was ok which he said of course no problem at all. I was so excited just 3 days in Perth and I was already making new friends and being asked to go for a ride. We rode down to a bar about an hours ride away in Ravenswood called the Thirsty Camel. Once there we had a quite beer then rode back to Perth with everyone splitting off at there closest motorway exit to where they lived and because I lived the furthest away I ended up being the last one left which didn’t bother me at all as I ride alone all the time. Sorry I have no photo’s of this but like I said I will take more in the future.

The following day Cathal and Shelly asked me to the beach with a bunch of there friends where we swam and drank a few beers in the sun. This was another amazing day. The day after that I went to AQWA The Aquarium of Western Australia which was pretty kool except for the touch pool where you are allowed to touch sharks and other marine life which personally I don’t agree with but everyone to there own I guess. Though they do do a lot of good work rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine life. The rest of my time here so far has just been me riding my bike all around the place through the city and out into the outback a small bit. In the 6 days I’ve had my bike I’ve done around 1100km of exploring with thousands more to come.
